Pregnancy and Post-Natal Care

Pregnancy poses unique challenges on a woman’s body. Pregnancy-induced biomechanical, hormonal, and vascular changes may lead to a variety of musculoskeletal problems causing discomfort during pregnancy.

The enlarging uterus alters the body’s centre of gravity and applies mechanical stresses on the body.

Joint laxity develops secondary to hormonal level fluctuations, predisposing to tissue strain.

Fluid retention may lead to compression of soft tissues including sensitive neural tissues.

Common problems associated with pregnancy include:

  • Low back and pelvic girdle pain
  • Hip, knee and foot pain
  • Leg muscle cramps
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Meralgia paraesthetica
  • Tarsal tunnel syndrome

Antill Physiotherapy can help you stay comfortable and active during pregnancy, and assist your recovery of muscle tone and function after delivery of your baby.
